Bird feeder poles
Bird feeder poles can enable you to have a birdfeeder in a place where there are no natural places to hang one. Even if there are trees around, many people prefer to use these poles for their bird feeders, as they are generally squirrel-resistant and can be placed wherever one chooses.
Bird feeder polls can come in different styles. There are straight poles with a mount on the top to attach a standard bird feeder. In this case, you just need to make sure that your birdfeeder is the type that will attach to the birdfeeder. There are universal birdfeeder poles that come in sections, and you can attach as many sections as you like.
In some cases squirrels may figure out a way to climb up the bird feeder poll. In that case you can get a pole baffle. This is a cone-shaped attachment that attaches upside down on the bird feeder pole to thwart the squirrels. There are also birdfeeder poles that come equipped with squirrel stoppers. There is one that has a much less conspicuous looking squirrel stopper built-in that squirrels cannot climb up. You can check that out here
. Nothing can be more frustrating than having squirrels eating your bird seed all day and scaring away the birds. The good news is that bird feeder poles like the one above to really work. The only thing you must be sure of this to keep the bird feeder poll at least 10 feet away from a structure or wall or tree that a squirrel could jump from.
There are several different styles available for bird feeder poles. There is the standard straight pole with a mount on top, then there is the graceful hook that looks a lot like a shepherd’s staff. There are double and triple versions of the shepherd’s staff bird feeder pole. Other styles include birdfeeder poles with several tiers of extending hooks for multiple bird feeders. And there are also birdfeeder poles that are extendable/adjustable.
In any case, bird feeder poles are generally affordable, starting in the $15-$20 range. They can get pretty fancy, and in the case of a special squirrel stopper pole you can pay over $100. But having a stylish birdfeeder poll that will repel squirrels for many years might just be worth $100.
Some birdfeeder poles are best installed in the ground by digging a small hole, inserting the poll and then pouring cement to form a solid base. In other cases you will be able to sync enough of the pole into the earth to make it sturdy enough for your bird feeders. If your birdfeeder is heavy, however, you might rather use the cement.
